About That '80s Run

That '80s Run was formed in 2014, but St. Charles Community College has hosted a community run annually since 1992.

Why That '80s Run?

Well, our way cool college was formed in 1986, with the first classes held in 1987. So like, why not celebrate the birth of our institution with a radical run?!

That '80s Run includes scenic 5K and 10K routes, both chip-timed by Fleet Feet, a 1-mile fun run and a free Health and Wellness Expo on race day.

Dude, not only is That '80s Run a blast from the past, it also supports a bodacious cause. One hundred percent of event proceeds benefit health and wellness projects and scholarships at SCC. In 2006, the college's radical Run Committee began offering health and wellness grants, up to $1,000 per grant, for college wellness projects. Since 2006, the committee has funded 88 health and wellness grants totaling a gnarly $61,362.33!

Awesome projects funded in previous years include:

  • Life Fitness treadmill for the Fitness Center
  • Mental Health & Suicide Prevention speaker
  • Fitness equipment for Pilates classes and recreational activities
  • Play/gym equipment for College for All Kids camps
  • De-Stress Fest supplies for finals week events
  • Guitars for student veterans and Six String Heroes

Each year, we also give out the $1,000 Brenda Hollrah Memorial Scholarship to one lucky 5K or 10K runner.

One Rad Scholarship Recipient

Francis Howell High School graduate, Rachell Warrick, was both excited and surprised when she found out she would be the recipient of the run's first $1,000 scholarship to SCC.

At the 2013 race, one 5K or 10K participant was drawn at random to win the scholarship, and the winner decided to donate her scholarship to a student in need. "I am so grateful for this scholarship," said Rachell. "It is a big help to me."
